The Federal government is increasingly turning to virtualization to provide measurable savings throughout the enterprise. Server virtualization enables agencies to increase the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of IT operations by reducing the number of underutilized servers in the data center. Fewer servers means lower equipment costs, faster and simpler application prototyping, increased efficiency and flexibility, higher availability, and reduced energy consumption.
More recently, the government has been exploring the concept of a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. This allows an enterprise to separate the personal computer desktop environment for simpler provisioning of new desktops. This reduces the downtime in the event of server or hardware failures, lowering the cost of application development and enabling greater management of the desktop image, longer refresh times for client desktop infrastructure, and enhanced security throughout the desktop environment.
AFCEA Bethesda invites you to a half-day technology symposium that will bring together senior government executives and IT professionals from federal civilian agencies, the Department of Defense and industry to look at trends and issues involved in server and desktop virtualization.
Please join our panelists and learn:
- How to optimize your agency’s data center through server consolidation
- Power and cooling benefits to reduce an agency ’s carbon footprint
- The path from virtualization to cloud computing – moving beyond the physical to a shared-service environment
- How to create an effective telework environment with a virtual desktop infrastructure
- How to design and deploy a disaster recovery solution that overcomes the limitations of physical infrastructure
- How to move computing from the desktop to the data center to enhance your agency ’s security
