AFCEA Bethesda’s Health IT Day “Cross-Community Empowerment” will bring together senior government leaders and IT professionals from the health and emergency preparedness and response communities to foster better communication, share lessons learned and identify mission-critical health IT issues. This full-day event will focus on federal initiatives and programs that harness current and emerging technologies to improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of public health care.

The conference program will explore in-depth three subject areas crucial to government health IT:

  • Surveillance—Recent outbreaks such as E. coli and Salmonella require the adoption of an effective early warning and communication system to provide actionable intelligence and situational awareness to emergency service end-users. Find out what tools and techniques agencies are interested in pursuing.
  • Emergency Preparedness—The post-9/11 era, where bioterrorism, chemical and radiation threats, and mass casualties are real threats, has made it more important for federal, state and local agencies to coordinate efforts to respond to real-time public health emergencies. Participants will discuss progress made in this area and what impediments lay ahead.
  • Information Sharing—Whether federal agencies are sharing information “horizontally” across the same level of government or “vertically” between federal, state and local governments, there is a need to develop data sharing capabilities that support real-time analysis. Participants will address both the technological and cultural challenges to info sharing and analysis and strategies for overcoming both.
  • Updates from key stakeholders at critical agencies such as FDA, CDC, CMS, HHS, VA, DoD and DHS who are responsible for achieving Federal health objectives through the use of IT
  • Program updates from IT project managers and department leaders
  • Small Business Program with breakout sessions and one-on-one town hall meetings with Small Business Representatives from various agencies
  • Sponsored tabletop displays from some of the leading vendors in the market
  • Networking with industry colleagues and partners who are also interested in Health opportunities – both prime and sub-contractors, companies big and small
